The culmination of your efforts will result in a beautifully crafted calligraphy scroll on traditional "Yatsugiri" paper, along with a heartfelt letter in your native language, thoughtfully inscribed on "Makigami" stationery. These creations serve as a cherished memento of your time in Kyoto, a token of the most profound and artistic experience.

Course Highlights:

1. Delve into the rich history of calligraphy (Shodo) and the origins of written Japanese, gaining a deeper understanding of the roots of Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana. Shodo, a traditional art deeply intertwined with daily life, becomes a bridge to cultural insights.

2. Discover the tools of Shodo, prepare the sumi ink, and learn the art of brush (fude) handling. The ink preparation becomes a moment of meditation, akin to Zen practice, as you turn your focus inward.

3. Hone your skills by mastering basic strokes and refining your brushwork technique. Learn the delicate balance of ink usage, the art of subtlety that's neither excessive nor sparing.

4. Explore the realm of Kanji characters, carefully selecting your preferred hand and holding the brush vertically. With a steady hand, practice powerful strokes, consistent lines, and harmonious layout. Devote your attention to around 20 distinct Kanji characters before selecting the ones that resonate with you for your final masterpiece.

5. Commence with the creation of a beautifully penned Japanese expression, capturing the essence of tranquility with each stroke. Following this practice, you will meticulously craft a Small calligraphy scroll on "Yatsugiri" paper.

6. Embrace the challenge of composing a Small scroll (85cm x 28cm), lending it the allure of traditional-style mounting. This scroll, now transformed into an exquisite work of art, can find a cherished place in your home, where its timeless beauty will be enjoyed for generations to come.

The experience occurs at a Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in the center of Kyoto.
